Birthday cards are always a must have in your stash. I feel like I make them all of the time and I never have enough. I recently hosted a Birthday Bonanza class and all of the projects focused on two bundles: Blow Out the Candles and Broadway Birthday. These two bundles are sure to be a new favorite of yours!
This card uses the Blow Out the Candles bundle and the new Frost White Shimmer Paint
and was inspired by one of the samples in the current Annual Catalog. The bundle and samples are on page 77. I chose to use purples instead of pinks.
My card base is Gorgeous Grape and it totally has me in love with purples. I’ve never been a big fan but we have two new purples, and the returning Blackberry Bliss, and I’ve been using them all more than I ever expected to.

The mat for my card is Whisper White and cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and is die cut with the awesome confetti die from the Candles and Confetti Framelits on the top and bottom. I cut a Grape scalloped circle from the Layering Circles Framelits and a white stitched circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits (another staple supply). I stamped my cake and pedestal on a piece of scrap white and used the two-step stamping method to add the color. This set is Photopolymer and having the filler stamps made this card a breeze and it’s so easy to create multiples. You can see through the block and stamp for perfect placement. I used Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather and Lemon Lime Twist ink for my colors. I stamped my sentiment in Grape and added silver bakers twine around my mat for another fun element. BUT – and I know you’re all wondering – before I layered my pieces I used the Frost White Shimmer Paint to add color and shimmer to my stitched circle.
I poured a drop of the paint into a take out soup lid (repurposed) and added a drop of my Lemon Lime Twist reinker. The spatula end of our new Take Your Pick Tool is perfect for mixing up mediums.
I used a piece of our Stamping Sponges to dab it onto the cardstock and let it sit for about 5 minutes to dry. It doesn’t take long at all for a thin coat. To make my sponges go further, I always cut them into 6 pieces and store them in a baggie labeled with the color / medium I used them for! After my circle was dry, I layered up my card and added a few sequins for a final touch.
It was hard to get a good picture of the shimmer, but it is so pretty!
This card really did come together so easily!
